Well instrumentation typically measures pressures, temperatures, and detects flow. Then, operators generally have the ability to choke inflow from various zones if warranted. However, the limited use of control valves with diagnostic capability prevents extensive downhole control. Determining the correct course of action depends largely on having access to accurate information along with the downhole tools to take whatever corrective action is required.
As in subsea applications, GEX has broad experience in creating intelligent wells giving Staff the information required and the means to manipulate flows in a way that has not previously been possible. This includes accessing diagnostic data generated by existing instrumentation in order to determine whether changes are occurring within the reservoir or the well, or whether a failed device is giving faulty information. The correct course of action often depends on having reliable information that can be provided only from an intelligent well.
